UPDATE: PETA Maintains Animal Abuse Claim Against Florida Aquarium
March 24, 2017
Representative Vern Buchanan of Sarasota is co-chairing a new bipartisan caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives with Representative Earl Blumenauer of Oregon. The caucus, named the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, will be dedicated to “the preservation of wildlife and humane treatment of animals.” The caucus will also work to raise awareness of animal welfare issues through educating members of Congress and their staffs. Buchanan’s top priorities are banning dog and rabbit use in painful experiments in the cosmetic industry, stopping the prevalence of animals being stomped to death in crush videos, and stopping horse trainers from injuring horses in a process called “soring” that forces the horses to “high-step” in competitions.
